VARSITY FINISHES TOP 10 IN LARGE POM & JAZZ AT THE 2010 NDTC!
Every year the Varsity dance team works hours, weeks, months (basically all year long) to prepare for the biggest weekend of their season….NATIONALS! This year that weekend turned into a very successful trip for the team & coaches as they made it through preliminary and semi-final rounds of competition to finish 9th in Pom and 8th in Jazz! This marked the first time that the team finished in the Top 10 with both of their competing routines at The Universal Dance Association's National Dance Team Championship held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations Girls!
The team headed to Florida for the competition that took place the weekend of February 6th & 7th with a high expectations and a lot of pride in the way they had prepared all season long. Both large Varsity Jazz and Pom divisions were full of many successful teams from across the country and to compete among that level of talent was such a challenge.
The team started the competition on Saturday in pom preliminaries with a great performance but had a bit of a scare during the announcement of teams moving on to the next round. The announcer had been given the list of teams moving forward and there was a typo and they called Senton High School, who is actually a team in Texas but was not competing. After a bit of a minor freak out, everything was clarified and the girls actually finished 2nd in their preliminary group and moved on to Pom Semi-Finals the next morning. Their jazz performance went off without a hitch later that afternoon and they were thrilled to also advance to Jazz Finals placing 4th in their group.
Sunday was another early morning as the girls had at least 2 more performances to prepare for. Pom Semi-Finals were up first to decide who would move on to the Finals. The girls gave an amazing performance in Semi’s and finished 8th, advancing to Finals later that day. After a quick lunch and hair & make-up touch ups the girls headed backstage for their Pom Finals performance. They took all of their energy and put it into that 2 minute dance and gave what the coaches described as their best performance. Everyone was so excited and could not wait to get out on that competition floor again for Jazz Finals. That final performance came quickly and the team gave an inspired performance of the jazz routine, which they have loved from the beginning of the season. What a way to cap off an incredible weekend of performances and at that point placements did not matter!
There was a bit of a wait while other divisions finished up before awards started. As the teams finally filed out onto the floor for awards everyone was so proud and could not wait to find out placements. They quickly moved through awards and when they reached the Top 10 for the pom division the excitement started to build. Seton was then called for 9th and was thrilled with their placement. Jazz awards were shortly after pom awards and after last year which was the first time Seton had been in Jazz Finals, the team was just thrilled to be in finals again. They again quickly moved thru the placements and once they reached the Top 10 again the team, coaches & parents alike were in shock. The team finished 8th in jazz and celebrated like they won. It was truly a ‘Magical Day’ at Disney!
