VARSITY TEAM PLACES 5TH AT NATIONALS!
In February 2006 the Seton High School Varsity Dance Team headed back to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for the National Dance Team Championships. Every year is filled with new and exciting challenges and this year was no different for the team.
For the 1st time ever the team was going to compete in the Hip-Hop category along with their usual Pom routine. After last year’s 5th place showing in the Pom division there was a lot of pressure on the girls to keep their national ranking AND to try to make finals with their 2nd routine. We are so proud to be able to say that the girls did just that!
They started the weekend Saturday morning, February 4th, with a great performance of their Pom routine and then followed it up with a high energy performance of their Hip Hop routine. The team was thrilled to make it to finals with both routines. That excitement carried over to finals later that night where the SHS Varsity team gave an exceptional repeat performance of their Hip-Hop routine from earlier in the day. The evening ended with a 13th place trophy and a huge amount of pride for team members, coaches and parents alike.
Sunday evening February 5th was finals for the Pom category. After the girls, and chaperones, held a “team only” practice without the coaches earlier in the day everyone knew that the girls would have a great performance that evening. And they did just that. They gave an inspiring performance and left the competition floor with no regrets, which is all any of us could ask for. Everyone was so happy when awards rolled around and the Seton Varsity Dance Team was again named as the 5th place team in the Nation, for the Large Varsity Pom division.
The competition will be televised on ESPN on April 29, 2006 from 3-4:00 pm and at other times randomly throughout the year. You can also get the final standings of the entire weekend and backstage photos at www.varsity.com.
